The A-Z Agency Checklist: 7 Areas You Must Nail to Hit $50k/mo

Building an agency to $50k/month isn't complicated. There are only so many things you actually need to do — and if you're screwing up any one of them, your business stalls. Here's the checklist I run every agency owner through.

1. Your Offer

This comes first because it's what you're selling. There are three parts: what you do, who you serve, and the terms.

The most common mistake I see is people trying to do everything for everyone. You need one clear thing, for one clear person, with one clear outcome and one clear risk reversal.

Beyond that, you need to understand where your offer sits on the demand capture vs. demand generation spectrum. Web design is a demand capture offer — people already have to want a website before they buy. Lead generation is demand generation — everyone wants more customers.

If you're selling a demand capture offer through cold email, you either need to ram volume or morph the offer toward demand generation. Give it unique positioning that makes people feel the pain before they knew they had it.

Then there's market sophistication. Ecom email marketing, Facebook ads, cold email — these are all level five. Maximum competition. Thousands of people selling the same thing. You can't just show up and pitch anymore.

At level five, you need four things: a strong claim, a real risk reversal, solid evidence, and content marketing that delivers upfront value. Every single person who comes through my program gets positioned at level five from day one — because even if you're at level one today, you'll hit level five eventually. Might as well build for it now.

2. Your Funnel

This one's quick. You don't need a crazy website. Get a funnel, put your offer in the headline, and get a VSL on the page.

The VSL is non-negotiable. I don't care what anyone tells you — if you're cold emailing strangers, they will Google you. They will land on your page. And if there's no video of you talking, you've already lost to whoever has one.

You don't need Hollywood production. Film it on your phone with subtitles. The script is simple: here's the problem, here's why what you've tried hasn't worked, here's how my approach is different, here's how we work together. That's it.

Also wire up your automations. When someone books a call, you should get a text and an email confirming it immediately. If you don't have that, set it up today.

3. Cold Email

There are three components: lead generation, writing the emails, and response handling.

On lead gen: most people use Apollo, which sounds fine until you realize 40–50% of those credits are for unverified emails. You pay for the list, then pay again for a cleaning tool, then lose half the leads anyway. Use a tool that only charges for verified contacts.

On writing: the strategy changes based on your market sophistication and offer type. There's no universal script that works for everyone. For some offers, you go straight for the call. For others, you lead with a Loom video. The how depends entirely on what you're selling and who you're selling it to.

On consistency: everything you want in this business is gated behind 90-day increments. People shut down campaigns after two weeks because they're not seeing results. That's not how this works. Everyone you email has their own conversion cycle. I get responses from people I emailed five months ago all the time.

Send consistently for 90 days before drawing any conclusions. For every 1,000 people you email — with all follow-ups elapsed — you should close at least one client. If you can't, you have a sales problem.

4. Your Sales Call

The single biggest issue I see is people who don't actually believe they can deliver. That lack of conviction bleeds into everything — they unconsciously sabotage their lead gen because they don't want to get on calls, because they're scared of signing clients they can't help.

Having a risk reversal isn't just for the prospect. It's for you. It removes the psychological weight so you can sell with certainty.

For the actual call, keep it ROI-driven. When I get on with a business owner, I pull up their numbers. I show them exactly where they're leaking revenue. Then I show them what fixing it looks like in dollars. When the math is obvious, the close is easy. You don't need to be an aggressive salesperson — you just need to make it a no-brainer.

5. Service Delivery and Client Relationships

Results matter, but client experience matters just as much. If your client doesn't like you, the moment a competitor offers a slightly better deal, they're gone. If they do like you, they'll give you grace on down months and stick around anyway.

Be proactive. Send updates before they ask. Consult them on things outside your immediate scope. Send a gift when you start working together. Show up on time, every time.

Clients who like you don't fire you. It's that simple.

6. Hiring

Most agency owners either don't hire at all or hire the wrong people with no process for onboarding them. Hiring well means knowing exactly what you need, running a real interview process, and having a plan to train someone without doubling your own workload in the short term.

Build a client management infrastructure so nothing falls through the cracks, and build a culture people actually want to be part of. Your team will show up differently when they're bought in.

7. Branding

You will hit market sophistication level five. The only way to compete there is personal brand.

Post content that gives real value. Tutorials, breakdowns, your actual process. When someone gets a cold email from you and Googles your name, there should be a video that makes them think this person clearly knows what they're doing.

You only need one solid YouTube video to be in the top 1% of outreach senders. Most people don't have one. Put yours up.

Run through this checklist right now. Level five offer? VSL live? Cold email running consistently? Sales calls closing on logic and conviction? Clients staying because they like you? Hired and managing people well? Building a brand? If you hit a gap, that's your next move.
