The Business Opportunity Trap

Here's what typically happens when someone gets started in business: they buy a business opportunity course.

And by "business opportunity course," I mean a course that tells you the exact thing to sell, to the exact type of person. It sounds perfect. It feels like a shortcut. But here's the problem nobody talks about.

If 3,000 people buy that course, and the target audience is 300,000 people, and maybe one percent of that audience is willing to buy at any given moment — your available slice of the market is tiny. Not because the market is bad. Because you're now competing with thousands of people chasing the exact same customers.

Saturation Isn't the Whole Problem

I want to be clear: saturation alone doesn't make something impossible. It just makes it harder if you're doing what everyone else is doing.

Take cold email outreach to marketing agencies or B2B businesses. If 10,000 people are selling the same service, to the same target audience, using the same marketing channel — you can't compete unless you do the things other people won't do.

Most people won't do those things. That's actually good news if you're willing to stay in the game.

What Staying Power Actually Means

Here's how it really plays out. A certain number of people are going to quit. They always do. But if you stick with it — if you're generating client results, making videos, going on podcasts, figuring out things the course seller never told you — eventually you become better than the person who sold you the course.

Then you're the guy who does that thing.

You start with X, and it leads to Y, which leads to Z, which leads somewhere you never expected. Over the course of a year, you accumulate knowledge and skills that compound. That's how people get to $100K a month, $200K a month. They've been in business for four years. They've put in the reps. They've figured out the things that can't be taught in a course.

The Delusion of Month-One Results

I'll be blunt about this: you're not going to make $10K your first month in business.

I promise you that. Not because you're not capable, but because you genuinely don't know how to operate a business yet. You don't know the mechanics. You don't know how to sell, how to fulfill, how to manage clients, how to handle the chaos that comes with running something real.

That's not an insult — it's just the truth. You just don't know what you don't know yet. And no course, no matter how expensive or detailed, can shortcut that learning curve entirely.

You have to stay. You have to do it for a long time. That's the unsexy answer that most people refuse to accept.

Stop Getting Angry at People Who Are Ahead of You

I picked this up from Alex Hormozi, and it stuck with me.

You can look at someone making more than you and feel angry about it. You can feel resentful, like it's unfair, like they had some advantage you didn't. But the raw, uncomfortable truth is this: they are quite literally just better than you at that thing right now.

They've put in more time. They've made more mistakes. They've figured out more things. They've built something real over years, not months.

So instead of getting angry at them — maybe consider becoming better.

What Most People Don't Want to Hear

The reason most beginners struggle in business isn't a lack of opportunity. There's plenty of opportunity. It's a lack of patience, consistency, and willingness to be bad at something for long enough to eventually be good.

Here's what the actual path looks like:

  • Buy the course or start the thing — yes, even if it's crowded

  • Accept that the first months will be slow — this is not a sign it's not working

  • Do the things others won't — more content, more outreach, more reps

  • Stay long enough to compound — skills, relationships, reputation

  • Become the person, not just the offer — that's when the numbers get big

There's no version of this where you skip the hard part. The people making real money aren't doing something magic. They're just further down the road than you are right now.

Stop waiting for the shortcut. Start building the staying power.
