From $0 to $20K/Month in 3 Months: How I Scaled My B2B Accounting Business

Three months ago I was at zero. No clients, no revenue — just a CPA with a skillset and a need to build something from scratch. Today I'm doing $20K a month offering fractional CFO services to agencies and e-com owners, and I'm targeting $50K by end of year.

Starting From Zero With the Right Offer

I'd been a CPA working at a big accounting firm in LA. I quit to start my own drop-shipping store, got experience in the e-com world, and eventually realized I wanted to bring my financial expertise directly to the kinds of business owners I'd come to understand — agency owners and e-com operators who are drowning in spreadsheets and have no idea what their profit margins actually look like.

The problem wasn't my skills. It was my offer. I needed help crafting something the market would actually respond to. Once I dialed that in, everything else had a foundation to build on.

The Latency Effect Is Real — And It Will Test You

Here's the thing nobody warns you about when you're selling a high-ticket B2B service: nothing happens fast.

I was running cold email campaigns and automated Twitter DMs, reaching out to 50–100 business owners every single day. For the first month or two? Almost nothing. No responses, no calls, no closed deals.

That's brutal when you're living it day by day. Sixty days of silence feels like forever when you're in it.

But there's a concept I picked up called the latency effect — the idea that those outbound campaigns you're sending today won't hit their full impact for two to three months. The long tail of consistent outbound effort compounds over time. You don't feel it when you're planting seeds. You feel it when they grow.

Two months in, responses started coming. Deals started closing. I just had a client follow up three to four weeks after our initial conversation — two months total from first touch to close — and they're now one of my biggest clients.

If you're building a high-ticket service business and you're not seeing results after 30 days, you're not failing. You're just early.

This Is a System, Not a Campaign

A lot of people think they're going to send a batch of cold emails and land an $8K/month client. That's not how this works.

Cold email is never something you turn off. It's a system you build and run continuously. And that's just the top of the funnel. You still need:

• A video sales letter that converts curious prospects

• Social proof collected and displayed the right way

• A follow-up sequence to re-engage people who go quiet

• A sales process that handles objections, business partners, and long decision cycles

• A fulfillment operation that actually delivers results at scale

Around $20–30K/month, you hit a wall. There is genuinely no way to push past that by yourself. You run out of hours. You start dropping balls. That's not failure — that's the signal to hire.

Invest Capital to Scale Time

This was a mindset shift that changed how I think about my business.

The short-term view says: if I spend $2,000 to hire someone, my margin drops by $2,000. That's true in month one. But that hire is now executing a function at scale that was previously eating your time — time you could be using to close more clients, build more systems, or make better strategic decisions.

You're a human with 24 hours. Money can buy leverage. Time cannot be bought back.

My team is now seven people — VAs, inbox management, marketing support. Building that team took time to train and manage, but it's what makes continued growth possible. You're not just buying output. You're buying the capacity to scale.

You're Building an Asset, Not Just an Income

The end goal isn't to trade your 9-to-5 for a different version of the same grind. The goal is to build something that functions without requiring your constant input.

Does Jeff Bezos handle Amazon customer service? No. But he built systems, hired people smarter than him in their zones of genius, and created a brand people trust.

That's the model. Build a brand. Create repeatable systems. Let things break — because when they break, you know what needs to be systematized next. An influx of leads you can't handle isn't a crisis. It's a hiring trigger.

Shiny object syndrome is real. I've felt it. You see numbers on Twitter, you see interviews like this one, and you want results now. But the people who win are the ones operating on long time horizons. Every person who plays long-term games eventually wins. That's just how it works.

What Actually Shortcut the Process
