How to Get Clients for Your One-Person Online Business in 2026

This is part two of my series on building a one-person profitable online business in 2026. In part one, I covered what to sell — and we landed on digital services like cold email lead gen, ads and funnels, content agencies, ecom email marketing, and AI automation agencies. These work because the deliverables are fundamentally text-based, which means AI can do 80–90% of the heavy lifting for you.

Now let's talk about how to actually get clients.

Step 1: Construct Your Offer Around Risk Reversals

When you're starting out, you have zero authority. Your prospect has all the leverage and it's incredibly easy for them to say no. Why? Because without case studies or proof, you are a risky bet. A business owner buys a service for one reason: to make more money than they spend. If they can't trust that you'll deliver, they're gone.

The fix is a risk reversal — either a guarantee or performance-based pricing.

A guarantee means you promise a specific result (calls booked, clients signed, revenue generated) and refund them if it doesn't happen. Performance-based pricing means they only pay when the result occurs. For cold email, the best pricing structure I've ever seen — and what I tell all my students to do — is a $500/month tech fee plus $200–$400 per call booked.

Compare that to walking in and saying "I charge $3,000/month flat." If you have no authority, nobody picks that. Nobody. The performance model is a no-brainer for the prospect, and it's the thing that gets people on the phone with you in the first place.

That's the key insight here: the guarantee isn't what closes the deal — it's what gets you the call. Getting someone on the phone is harder than getting their money once they're there. Use the guarantee to get in the room.

Step 2: Generate Leads with Outreach

There are three ways to sign clients: content, outreach, and ads. Content scales infinitely but is slow. Ads are fast but expensive. Outreach is fast and cheap — the only downside is it scales linearly.

If you're early and money-poor, outreach is your only real answer. There are two types: Dream 100 and cold email.

Dream 100

Dream 100 is high-intent, low-volume outreach where you make a deliverable upfront and send it to a prospect before they've asked for it. Ad scripts, email sequences, VSL scripts — you build it in a Google Doc and put it in their hands by any means necessary: email, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook.

AI makes this almost absurdly easy. What used to take 3 hours to produce manually now takes 3 minutes and costs about 14 cents in API credits. If you send 10 Dream 100 outreach messages in 30 minutes, and even 5% respond, the math works. Model it out: if your close rate is 20% and you charge $2,000/month, you need five calls to close one client. If each call takes 40 minutes of outreach to generate, that's 200 minutes and roughly $3.33 in AI costs to acquire a $2,000/month client. That's $600 an hour. I'll take that.

Here's the 30-day schedule I recommend: one niche per day, 10 outreach messages per day, Dream 100 documents for each. By day 30, you've sent 300 outreach messages across 30 niches and learned exactly what's working.

Targeting: Go Obscure

Stop asking "what's a proven niche?" The moment someone calls a niche proven, everyone floods it and it stops working. Instead, target obscure niches — businesses that sell high-ticket products or services ($10,000+) that almost no one else is targeting. One of my students, Kabrin, went from sub-1% response rates in saturated niches to 40–50% response rates in obscure niches — and added $44,000/month to his agency in a single month.

Cold Email

Once you've signed one to three clients with Dream 100 and have a couple thousand dollars in profit, layer in cold email. It costs real money to run properly — domains, inboxes, leads, sending software — and it's basically useless under $600/month. That's why you build capital first.

Treat cold email scripts like ad creatives. You wouldn't run a single ad creative in a Meta campaign — so don't run a single script. Write 10–20 variations. Test subject lines, calls to action, case study injections. The market tells you what works; you just have to give it enough to test.

Step 3: Close the Call with Deliverable Stacking

You got the call booked. Now don't blow it by saying something vague like "I send cold emails for your business." That's not a pitch — that's a sentence.

Do deliverable stacking instead. Walk them through everything:

  • I'll register 50 domains and spin up 100 inboxes in a private IP pool

  • I'll scrape 12,000 leads in your target market

  • I'll write 15 script variations and split test them

  • I'll warm up all inboxes to stay out of spam

  • I'll send 40,000 emails per month, manage responses, and book qualified leads to your calendar

  • I'll screen out unqualified leads before they hit your calendar

  • $500/month tech fee, $250 per showed-up call

That's a pitch. Walk through each line and explain why you do it. Use a Google Slides deck or a Gamma doc and screen share it — you don't have to memorize anything.

Before the pitch, run discovery. Ask if they actually want more sales calls, if they can handle the volume, and whether their market is large enough to scrape (15,000+ people minimum). Not everyone is a fit, and that's fine. Weed them out early.

The Bottom Line

This is a math game. Risk reversals get you calls. Outreach fills your pipeline. Deliverable stacking closes the deal. Most people fail not because the system doesn't work — they fail because they quit the moment it gets hard. That's the sifting mechanism. The people who push through it are the ones who make real money.
