My $5 Million VSL Script: The Framework That Turns Sales Calls Into Order-Taking Calls

I've made the most hilariously effective VSL of all time.

I know that sounds like a bold claim, but I've used the same exact structure and scripting framework to push about $5 million worth of business through a single placement offer. On three separate occasions, my sales team has come to me and said, "This person is going to buy — but they really want to talk to you because they loved the video."

That doesn't happen by accident.

First, Let's Kill the Objection That You Don't Need a VSL

Every time I bring this up, someone says it: "VSLs aren't for my industry." SEO agencies don't need a VSL. This type of business doesn't need a VSL.

Let me ask you something. In what situation does you being on video — presenting your value proposition, making your sales argument, showing your results — ever result in you getting less business?

Can you point to a single specific instance where having a good VSL caused you to make less money? Because I can't find one.

Here's the caveat: it has to actually be good. But if it is, a VSL will nearly 100% of the time get you significantly more booked calls, more leads, and more closed sales.

The Core Idea: Turn Sales Calls Into Order-Taking Calls

Most people think about VSLs the wrong way. The framing I use is this: make the VSL morph the sales call as close to an order-taking call as possible.

Think about what happens on a normal sales call. You do discovery, you ask about their situation, and then you go into a full pitch — explaining everything you do, showing evidence you can get results, laying out your value proposition.

What if all of that was already done before they ever got on the call?

That's exactly what a great VSL does. It delivers the pitch, the evidence, and the sales argument upfront — so that by the time someone books a call, they're not evaluating you. They're ready to move forward.

This is what has happened for us. Our sales calls close significantly higher because the heavy lifting is already done.

The Framework: Crowdsource Your Questions

Here's the part nobody talks about — and this is the actual method.

When we first spun up our placement offer, we had a standard 5-to-6-minute explainer video. Broad overview, nothing fancy. We ran traffic through it and booked about 40 to 50 sales calls.

Then I did something simple.

I told my sales team to send me every single call recording. I grabbed a notecard, sat down, and started watching. Every time someone asked a question, I wrote it down. If the same question came up again, I put a tally next to it.

After going through all the recordings, I had a stack of notecards covered in questions and tally marks.

Why This Works

Here's the insight: if you take all those questions and rank them by how frequently they were asked — most tallies to least — you've just uncovered the exact logical sequence in which a prospect's mind processes your offer.

They need to know the answer to question one before they can ask question two. They need question two answered before question three makes sense. And so on.

That's the order you write your VSL.

When you do this, prospects get on calls and say things like, "I was watching your video and it felt like you were reading my mind."

You were. You crowdsourced the data, ranked it by frequency, and delivered answers in the exact order their brain was going to ask for them.

The Results Speak for Themselves

Running ads to a cold audience, a solid cost-per-call at scale is usually $200 to $300.

With this VSL, we're getting calls for $80 to $90.

That's not a marginal improvement — that's a completely different business. And it happens because the VSL answers every question a prospect could conceivably have, in the exact descending order they would naturally ask it.

What to Actually Do

I'm not going to give you a word-for-word script. That would actually be less useful. What I'm giving you is the framework:

  1. Run calls — get 30 to 50 sales call recordings from your current process.

  2. Log every question — write down every question prospects ask, with tally marks for repeats.

  3. Rank by frequency — sort questions from most asked to least asked.

  4. Write the VSL — answer each question in that order, top to bottom.

That's it. That's the whole thing.

Do It Even If It's Uncomfortable

I know getting on camera is a pain. I know saying a script out loud feels weird the first time. It sucks, it's annoying, and everyone feels that way at the start.

Do it anyway.

I've watched this work for people inside my programs time and time again. They didn't have a VSL, we helped them build one using this method, and their sales process got dramatically easier almost immediately.
