First, you need to understand the difference between a product business and a service business, because this distinction matters a lot when you're starting with limited capital.

A product business — like an e-commerce store — requires you to buy inventory and run ads to get traffic. The math looks something like this:

  • $100 sale

  • minus $30 for the product

  • minus $30 for ads

  • = $40 profit

That's low capital efficiency for a low margin. Not ideal when you're starting from scratch.

A service business is different. Instead of capital, it requires your time for fulfillment. And if you don't have money for ads, you can replace that with outbound marketing — directly messaging or emailing businesses, or even cold calling if you've got the nerve for it.

The equation is simple: if you have more time than capital, run a service business.

Here's what I believe is the Level 1 opportunity right now: creating short-form video content for businesses — TikToks, YouTube Shorts, and Reels.

Why does this check every box?

  • It's a service business, so it runs on your time, not your capital

  • You can use outbound marketing to get clients — no ad spend required

  • It's at market sophistication Level 1: most businesses want it, and very few people are selling it well

Step 2: Get Your First Client (Even for Free)

If you have zero results and zero social proof, go offer your service for free to someone. Build a sample. Get a testimonial. That's how you break in.

Step 3: Set Up Your Outreach System

You need:

  • A landing page with a short video explaining what you do

  • A Twitter and LinkedIn account

  • A consistent outbound messaging strategy targeting business owners

The best clients for this offer are people who sell courses, coaching, software, or agency services. These businesses already know they need content — they just haven't found someone reliable to make it.
